Native-Owned
Proudly Native-Owned. Unmistakably The Fringe.
The Fringe 17 Boutique & Salon is a Native-owned small business in Bismarck, North Dakota, with a style and story all its own.
Behind The Fringe is Lisa Young Bear, stylist and operator, an enrolled member of the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation. Lisa grew up in Mandaree and attended college in Bismarck and Dickinson. Her North Dakota roots and Native heritage are part of the story she brings to the business. And the 17? It stands for 2017, the year we opened. State trade name requirements meant we couldn’t be just “The Fringe,” so we put a 17 on it and moved on. Now our name carries a little reminder of where it all began.
Our doors first opened in 2017 as The Fringe Spa’Tique, a full-service salon offering hair and spa services. When the COVID-19 pandemic changed the way we could do business in early 2020, we changed with it. We narrowed our salon services, expanded the boutique, and became The Fringe 17 Boutique & Salon.
That chapter helped shape the shop you know today: Indigenous and Western-inspired fashion, jewelry, home decor, accessories, and salon services, with plenty of personality.
Around here, we call it sassy and flashy. We love expressive style, standout details, and helping curvy women find looks that feel like them. Whether you’re shopping for an everyday favorite or something that makes an entrance, there’s room for your own kind of bold at The Fringe.
Thank you for supporting our Native-owned small business. Every visit and purchase helps keep this next chapter going. We’re grateful you’re part of our story.
